Christian Esser

Christian Esser leads WINESCHOOL3 and its programs the Caribbean. Christian has worked in the wine industry for 16 years as an educator, sommelier and consultant. Christian is an Associate with the Institute of Wine and Spirits from London's Wine and Spirits Educational Trust. Christian has a background in Hospitality, Viticulture and marketing and as such has worked with multiple restaurants and wineries to improve sales and level of quality.
Christian has a particular focus of knowledge on Northern Hemisphere wine countries and on Pinot Noir. Christian also teaches spirits courses and has a special interest in the Scotch Whiskeys.

It represents a distinct style within the gin category, appreciated for its intensity and its historical connection to the naval tradition of 'proofing.'

Aug 25: As gin's popularity within the British Navy grew, so too did its influence on naval traditions and practices. One of the most significant of these was the daily 'rum ration' or 'tot,' a practice that had its roots in the 17th century. Originally, the ration consisted of beer, but due to the difficulties in storing beer for long voyages, it was replaced with spirits, primarily rum, but gin was also included, especially on ships patrolling colder climates.
